Redeux News: BCBS moving 3,000 jobs to Detroit RenCen!

 

 

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan announced today that is it moving 3,000 of its employees from Southfield to the RenCen (Towers 5 and 6). That is very good news for the headquarters of General Motors which owns the Renaissance Center, as this move will put the occupancy rate near 90%. It is also very good news for the downtown area and downtown businesses.

Redeux News: GM Keeps HQ @ RenCen!

 Fritz Henderson, CEO of General Motors, announced today that the U.S. car company will be retaining its headquarters at the Renaissance Center in Detroit Michigan. Mr. Henderson stated that the Company will continue to downsize and also maintain operations at the Warren Tech Center. However, in spite of offered incentives from the maoyr of Warren, Michigan, to move the GM HQ there, General Motors will stay in the Motor City. Six thousand employees will shortly be moving from Detroit to Warren, however.

Detroit's Unique Neighborhoods: Millender Center Apartments

Some people just like renting, or need to rent for awhile, or just don't want the hassle of taking care of a house. Even cats are allowed for residents. The Millender Center is named for the 1970s and 1980s late African-American attorney and political activist Robert Millender .

Doing It in Detroit: RenCen4 Movie Theaters

Betcha didn't know that you can attend a first-class movie theatre right here in Detroit! The RenCen 4 Movie Theater is located in Tower 200 of the GM Renaissance Building.  It is a completely updated, state-of-the-art, 4-screen, 680-seat complex offering first-run movies.

The movie-going experience is enhanced with digital surround sound, a concession stand, and many other modern amenities.  Additionally, the RenCen4 Movie Theater Complex can host private theater parties and design custom special events, private parties, and business meetings and presentations.

An added benefit of "going to the movies" at the RenCen is the opportunity to visit the many and varied RenCen Shops on the Riverfront and in the Towers of the RenCen

Parking is free for theater goers; including free valet parking and free parking in the Beubien Parking structure--parking tickets are validated with movie ticket purchase.  A variety of movies are shown on the four screens; presently, the theaters are showing (2) PG-13 films, (1) PG film, and (1) R film.

Our September 11th

Good Things Can Happen on September 11th

September 11, 1998.

That is our wedding anniversary. It was chosen totally by accident: after "being friends" for over ten years, we decided in August 1997, to "take our relationship to the next level".

After several rounds of "telephone tag", we made a date on Thursday, September 11, 1997 to take "the big step"...

Everything went well and in February, 1998, we became engaged. We chose as our wedding date, Friday, September 11, 1998--only because that date was exactly one year from the day we decided to make our relationship permanent. Besides, our wedding was very small: 10 guests, the minister, and our favorite Patti LaBelle song on CD.

Then came 2001--after experiencing the shock along with the rest of America, I was kinda "bummed" that the Attacks happened on our third wedding anniversary, until...

...on Thursday, September 13, 2001, I saw a gentleman on TV walking around and around the Pentagon looking totally despondent and lost.

I found out from the TV commentary that September 11 2001 was his TWENTY-FIFTH wedding anniversary, and he had lost his wife in the Pentagon. They were going to have a celebration dinner that night after she came home from work...of course, she never did come home.

I was never "bummed" again; and the picture of that lost and broken man will never leave me.

Update: Today we will happily celebrate our 10th anniversary. We have dinner reservations at Seldom Blues in the RenCen. We will enjoy the music and looking out at the Detroit River. We'll talk about all the good times and challenging times, and I promise I won't remind him about eating all of the leftover fried chicken before I got home from work. Speaking of "work", that's what marriage is: lots of work, with a healthy dose of commitment. It really helps if you've married your best friend. And of course, we will never forget our 3,000 fellow Americans who will not be able to celebrate anything ever again.
