Tuesday Tidbits: The Shops at Kresge

What's old can be new again...on April 30, a preview will be held for a new retail center will open at the site of the old S.S. Kresge Five-and-Dime Store in Downtown Detroit at 1201 Woodward Avenue. Called the "Shops in the Kresge Building", there will be more than 100 retail spaces for rent for boutiques, gifts shops, services, and food offerings. The new downtown center is being developed by the same team and along the same lines as the recently opened Russell Bazaar Mall on E. Grand Blvd. and I-75.

The S.S. Kresge Stores were founded at the turn of the last century by Sebastian Spering Kresge, who later merged with the McCory Department stores in the 1920s. The Kresge stores eventually became the K-mart Corporation.

From 4 - 8 pm on Thursday April 30, both the public and the press are invited to a preview of the Shops at the Kresge Building. Complimentary cocktails and hors d'oeuvres will be served, and entertainment will be provided.

  1. I just really love the facts about Detroit. They are always soooooooo different. I have been away from my hometown for over 30 years and still it is so important to see and know what is going on. I am glad I get the feed to my email so I don't miss ANYTHING.
